Late June fishing is just as hot as the weather!
Date: June 26, 2020
What a spectacular month June has turned out to be for fishing. We have had a few rain showers on the boat but all in all it’s been a good month weather wise, and July should be even better for weather.
Tarpon fishing has been as good as it gets here in New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach, with up to 10 fish hooked in a single day. These are all large, mature fish in the 80-120lb class. Numerous anglers have caught their first tarpon ever this past two weeks with all of them being huge fish. Tarpon fishing should continue to be good all the way through July and into August.
Inshore Mosquito Lagoon and Ponce Inlet fishing has also been incredible, with big bull redfish being caught on almost every trip, usually 2-6 fish with a few days landing even more. These fish have been landed on fly and spin tackle this past week and by anglers as young as 11 years old. Anyone can catch a fish of a lifetime on my boat!
Sight fishing in the back country of Mosquito Lagoon has continued to be good, with good visibility in many areas. We have had shots at the usual reds and trout, as well as a few snook, which isn’t relatively common for our area but has been more consistent with a few consecutive warm winters.
Want to catch your biggest red, first tarpon, or other fish of a lifetime? Give me a shout and let’s make it happen!
